Sports injury therapy

Sports injury therapy for athletes of every age

Root-cause evaluation, a plan built around your sport and a gradual, checked return to play. No referral needed.

Why the same injury keeps coming back

Sports matter to people of every age, from grade school to college and well beyond, and injuries happen in every one of them. A sprain or a strain hurts where it hurts, but it rarely starts there. Muscle imbalances, mechanics that are slightly off and movement habits that waste effort all load a joint in a way it was not built for, and the pain follows.

If treatment only chases the sore spot, the cause stays in place and the injury returns the next time the season ramps up. At Roberts Physical Therapy the evaluation looks past the symptom to the pattern behind it, so the plan fixes what is actually wearing the tissue down.

You do not need a referral to start. Call (715) 803-7617 and the front desk will find you a time, often within one or two business days.

An evaluation built around your sport

Your first visit starts with your story and then moves to the physical work. The therapist evaluates your abilities against what your specific sport asks of your body, whether you are recovering from a sprain, a strain or a surgical procedure.

Exercises are chosen because they suit the movements you actually make. A pitcher, a hockey defender and a distance runner do not need the same program, so the sport-specific work replicates real game movements and conditions. That is how coordination, agility and endurance come back along with the strength.

Programs are adjusted for experience level, current condition and goals, from youth players to seasoned competitors, so nobody is overwhelmed or under-challenged. Along the way your therapist explains the injury and how each treatment helps you avoid reinjury.

Back in play, gradually

Going back too fast is the quickest way to land in the clinic again. Before you move to more demanding activity, your therapist checks that you are ready for it, then reintroduces sport-specific work in steps. Trust in your own body is part of recovery, and it returns as the steps get bigger.

Before you leave, you get the practical side of prevention: warm-up routines, strength maintenance and movement technique that reduce strain. Jacob Brenner, DPT, treats sports rehab patients in Plainfield and Wisconsin Rapids, and David Ecker, DPT, sees runners in Amherst and Wisconsin Rapids.

If you run

Runners get a second room

Running injuries are mostly mechanics, and mechanics are easier to fix when you can see them. The Pineries Running Lab is the practice’s running side, with David Ecker, DPT, and lab director Nathan Brown, DPT, OCS.
