Why land-based exercise can hurt too much, too soon
Some bodies cannot yet do the exercise they need. A knee that aches under your own weight, a hip that will not tolerate a standing program, a back that flares with every step on a hard floor. The work that would help is the work that hurts, and so it does not get done.
Aquatic therapy increases strength and balance while decreasing the complaints of pain that are often associated with land-based activity. It is particularly appropriate for chronic pain, arthritis and balance disorders, and it can speed recovery from bone fractures, joint replacements, surgeries and other musculoskeletal injuries.
