Vertigo, mobility and balance

Vertigo and balance care when the ground will not hold still

Vertigo, dizziness, balance disorders, neurological conditions such as peripheral neuropathy, and fall prevention. Nathan Brown, DPT, OCS lists vestibular dysfunction and vertigo among his interests.

When dizziness or unsteadiness takes over the day

Vertigo can arrive overnight. Balance can slip slowly, until a trip to the mailbox feels like a risk. Both are on our list of conditions, along with neurological disorders including peripheral neuropathy and the fall risk that comes with them.

No referral is needed to be seen here. Call (715) 803-7617 and tell us what is happening, and we will find the earliest evaluation we can.

How we assess and retrain

The visit begins with your story: when it started, what sets it off, what it stops you doing. Your therapist then examines how you move and balance. Nathan Brown, DPT, OCS, our Pineries Lab Director, lists vestibular dysfunction and vertigo among his areas of interest, and Jacob Brenner lists balance among his.

Balance retraining is exercise-based, built around the problems the exam turns up. For some patients, aquatic therapy at our Wisconsin Rapids clinic is an option, and your therapist decides at the evaluation whether it fits.

At home between visits

Home exercise is part of the plan, and fall prevention starts in the house. Your therapist will go over your own space with you and explain what to change.

Tell your therapist about rugs, stairs, lighting and the places you reach for a wall. Those details shape the exercises you are given.

A Google review

“We needed to use the services of Roberts P.T. during an emergency when my husband woke up with a severe case of vertigo. They were able to provide 2 appointments quickly.”
